Oh. My. Goodness.

I have been so blessed! The response to my purse appearing in the September issue of COUNTRY HOME magazine has been huge. As a result, the cupboards are almost bare, but I will be very busy in my studio creating new stuff and will list it as soon as possible. Please bookmark my site and check back, and for heaven's sake, if you see something you like GRAB IT before it's gone! No procrastinating. ;0)

vintage Belle of the Plains flour sack tote ~ SOLD!

But here's what the lining looked like.

A new take on an old favorite.

Picture
The Messenger Bag. Slightly smaller and more refined than its urban cousin, but big on charm.

Messenger Bags measure 12" wide, 9" deep. 2" wide strap is long enough to be worn comfortably across your chest. May be able to adjust on custom orders, depending upon the sack. 7x5 split interior pocket.

Also available Gussied Up with a ruffle.

vintage JIM FARMWELL feed sack tote ~ yup, you guessed it ~ SOLD.

JIM FARMWELL FEEDS WHAT? Or should I say WHOM? I suspect that's not his REAL name, but he looks like somebody's uncle and he's smoking a corncob pipe, for heaven's sake. How can you resist?

This vintage feed sack is in pristine, never-been-used condition. It's a slightly nubby natural muslin and the graphics (as you can see) are bold and bright. Lined with interfacing and a black and off-white rather primitive print.

vintage DIXIE'S BEST flour sack tote

I love this old flour sack. It reminds me of a County Fair Bake-Off and it makes me want to whistle the theme to the Andy Griffith show. In any case, it has been recycled into a dandy little tote bag.

It feels like linen but it's got some kind of coating that makes it crinkly. A few age spots, which are to be expected. Measures a petite-ish 15" across the top and 14" tall, with a 3" bottom gusset. Handles have a 14" drop. The back has a faint "ghost image" of the front graphics.

SOLD.

 "Flour" power. Hee.

The inside is a riot of color (as if it needs it) with big bouquets of flowers. Very perky. Just like Aunt Bea.

Tote, meet Ruffle. Ruffle, Tote.

And just because I'm a glutton for punishment, I came up with the Gussied Up version of any of the aforementioned totes. It has the added cuteness of a hand gathered ruffle all around the top.

Tote bag  and carpetbagger sizes are largely determined by the feed sacks that I'm using. Some sacks are really wide and are better suited to the Enormous variety. Some are small, old salt sacks for instance, and make better Wee-sized versions.  I love, love, love these totes. Every time I make one I want to keep it!

vintage PURINA CHECKER-ETTS - the Big Mamoo

Oooooooooo, I LOVE this bag! The feed sack itself is in great condition and I added a sage flannel lining, which gives it the softest hand. It's really lovely. This is the BIG MAMOO size, which means you can haul a lot of stuff around in it! Measuring 19" wide and 12" deep, it has a 9x4.5" bottom oval along with the standard gathers to give it extra wiggle room. There's a split 8x4 pocket inside. The fabric covered rope handles are 26" from knot to knot, which is long enough to sling over your shoulder. Lined with interfacing and alayer of batting. All this with the aforementioned yummy flannel and you've got yourself one groovy bag. One of a kind!

SOLD.

vintage Quilt Top purse ~ the peachy keen one

 SOLD, as well.

Here's another wee carpetbagger that I recycled from a vintage quilt top! This was newspaper pieced (I had to pick the paper scraps off) and HAND STITCHED, people! It's amazing. Inside is a layer of batting to give it body and a vintage PURINA broiler feed sack lining. Finished off with decorative topstitching.

Measures 14" wide and 9" tall, with a 7x5" bottom oval. Don't let the wee size fool you - there are gathers at the bottom that allow for extra wiggle room. 19" twisted cotton roping handles are fed through black metal grommets.

Although I've made a few of these purses, they're all different because each quilt square is. There are a variety of fabrics and colors, so it goes with anything. Very cute, country chic.

Possum Pouches (a wristlet by another name)

Picture
Not reeeeeally a tote, but bigger-than-your-average wristlet. The longer handle slips through the shorter one, forming the wristlet thingie. Functional and cute. What more can a girl ask for?
